Russel Huekler - Your 15 Minutes Are Up

While the 12 simpletons that voted to acquit Casey Anthony yesterday remain (mercifully) mute, alternate juror Russell Huekler has wasted no time making the media rounds.

Today we have gleaned an insight into the mental void of the 12 jurors and the 5 alternates, thanks to Russell. The jurors liked Jose Baez. They thought Casey Anthony was a good mother. They thought George Anthony had something to hide. They thought Caylee's death was an accident, and that the aftermath of Caylee's death spun out of control.

The jurors were apparently blissfully untroubled by a mother failing to report her child missing for 31 days. The jailhouse tapes, showing Casey in all her narcissistic, sociopathic glory, repeating lie after lie after lie? The fact Casey led investigators to Universal Studios, home of the nonexistent job, and then proceeded to be captured on tape continuing to lie? Well, the jurors couldn't wiggle out of that evidence, so they were at least bright enough to find her guilty on those charges.

From Russell's comments, it appears that the jurors bought Jose's opening statements, hook, line, and sinker, then checked out mentally for the next six weeks. Russel denies this, saying the jury paid attention to the evidence presented.

I stand by my earlier assessment that the jurors hit the deliberation room with one goal in mind - to get the hell out of Orange County as quickly as they could. They didn't want to be there. I would imagine that they spent at most a half hour discussing the case on Monday evening, and sat around twiddling their thumbs for a bit on Tuesday, then announced they'd reached a verdict.

Poor Russell definitely drank the Casey Kool-Aid - he sounds a bit smitten with her when he talks about her. That matter of a dead child was as inconsequential to him as it was to Casey. The most he can offer? He thinks Casey "needs help".

Russell probably spent the better part of the last six weeks thinking about the extra money he'd make from media appearances once this trial was over. And, less then 24 hours after the verdict was read in this case, many are sick of the sight of him.

Russell, your 15 minutes are up.
