Paradigm Signs, Then Unsigns Jose Baez

Cashing in on Caylee isn't going to be quite the cakewalk Jose Baez may have thought.

Flush from his "victory" on Tuesday, Bozo Baez wasted no time in sitting down with Barbara Walters for an in-depth interview. One would think that the exposure (and payout, no doubt) from that interview would be enough of a coup for our beefy boy. After all, chatting with Babs was pretty impressive for a man who graduated from law school in 1997, yet wasn't allowed to practice law until 2005. Those annoying matters of unpaid child support, the student loans Jose defaulted on, and the bad checks he'd written had to be tended to first.

But, no, Jose has far greater sugarplums of publicity and financial gain dancing in his pomaded head. On Wednesday, it came to light that Bozo has an agent - an unfortunate by the name of Jim Griffin. Mr. Griffin was able to secure Bozo a signing with Paradigm, a talent agency with contact info listed for Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Monterey, and New York.

In their first internal memo, Paradigm announced that they had signed Bozo, and would handle all broadcast, books, TV, and motion-picture rights for him. Paradigm also hastily clarified that "they had not, and will not, sign up Casey Anthony." Translated - our morals may be completely in the toilet, but we haven't flushed.

Hopefully, Jose hadn't popped the cork on the celebratory champagne. Five hours later, Paradigm issued another memo - "We have informed Jose Baez tonight that we will not be representing him." Oops...awkward.

Perhaps other agencies will take note of the backlash, and think long and hard about signing Jose. Yesterday afternoon, Twitter exploded with angry tweets from users, claiming that Jose and Casey had signed a package deal with the William Morris Agency. Within the hour, bloggers had posted contact info for William Morris, and several Facebook pages were created, also listing the agency's contact info. William Morris hastily issued a denial.

Traveling back to Tuesday, let's revisit Bozo's statement at the defense's press conference. Baez said, "While we are happy for Casey, there are no winners in this case. Caylee passed on far, far too soon. What my driving force has been the last three years was to make sure there was justice for Casey and Caylee."

Lofty words, indeed. But, why not be straight up and say what he was really thinking? My bet is his true thoughts ran along the lines of, "Later, mahfugs. You define winning and justice however you want. The killer and her dead kid were the best thing that ever happened to me. I didn't expect to win this case - we ALL know Casey's guilty. Deal with it. Damn, I'm lucky, and now I'm gonna get rich."
